HEAD EAST
- Sundays, 10:00pm–11:00pm
Broadcasting from the West Coast, HEAD EAST draws from very broad definitions of rock, soul, and punk to explore lesser-known and ethnocentric expressions of “heaviness” that are more commonly claimed by American artists. From records that were hidden under late-60s ashtrays to basement crates still being discovered, each week the show assembles a sonic collage of scenes and genres spanning Midwestern to Near Eastern origins. Take in Hanover Floyd-worship, Marrakeshi acid-folk, Indonesian bell bottom jams, French prog, 70s Iggy homage, Turkish arena-psych, Nigerian hard rock, Akron avant-punk, and Dublin blown-amp blues. Let go of your baggage around genre boundaries and come hear the obscure and familiar in a strange new way.
