The Next Case of the Barefoot Latin Dance Party

This week is a return to a pure Latin theme -- no Brazil in this set -- something I haven't done since Mother's Day. You folks are overdue for some corazon d'America... lindas guajiras!

The top of the set starts out with my number one reason for playing the Latin vibe... we hear "radio Havana," old-timey hits from Cuba's Golden Era (late 40s up to the Revolution... well that's the Golden Era in my mind!). My "barefoot dance party" sets always look for songs with a rootsy, folksy sound. That will sometimes include music for full orchestra, but always with that country guajira vibe. At the end of the first hour we will again mingle with that noble cousin of the guajira, Lando and Festejo music from the Afro-Peruvian scene of the 70s.

The second set today is a bit of a new theme on the big show... this is a tribute to the Buena Vista Social Club sound, featuring more currently-sourced Latin roots music coming from Havana, New York, and Colombia. We begin this set with two tracks from the fine Afrocubism project featuring BVSC alum Eliades Ochoa surrounded by musicians from Western Africa. (True story:  this Havana-meets-Mali theme was the concept that first birthed the BVSC project at World Circuit records, but that project morphed into the Havana-retirement-club-featuring-for-some-reason-Ry-Cooder project when musicians from Mali had their travel passports revoked.) 

We end this set with a true first on the Adventures:  I dip into some honest-to-goodness salsa tracks for your kitchen dancing pleasure. Don't break anything.
