Respected LadyLand: Witch Hunt

<< Respected LadyLand / Travlin' the Tracks with DJ Action Slacks
The symbol of the witch is a doubled sided coin: a
witch can be a representation of a powerful woman. But she is
also the personification of the unjust vilification of women, especially
assertive women who use their voices to speak out against injustice.
This
episode covers both sides of the witch's coin by featuring songs
reveling in the power of witchcraft. However, we also take a listen to
women music-makers who were victims of "witch hunts" perpetrated by
those who wanted to silence their voices through intimidation, targeting
by law enforcement, and blacklisting: Lena Horne, Ronnie Gilbert (of the Weavers), Aretha Franklin, Cass Ellioit, Hazel Scott, Miriam Makeba, and Eartha Kitt.
