Tropicology - Episode 146: Spring Moods

Today I’m going to take you on one of those moody trips on Tropicology… sometimes I like to throw together a set of all deep sounds and profound themes, this is going to be one of those days. We will hear some music with a rambly vibe… springtime is a season for poking our heads out of our winter lairs and getting on the move again. Part of today’s mission is a soundtrack for that first day out of hibernation. We’ll hear some moody nordestino music as well… that region is most known musically for the party sounds of forro, but there is also a deep tradition here of songs about hardship and loss. We’ll hear some arty bossa nova today, and we’ll also space out with some psychedelic MPB. Mostly Brazilian sounds on today’s show, although we do kick off in Africa. This will be my moment of musical poetry for the change in season, an expression of our perpetual awe at this annual miracle of rebirth. But this is also about the animal perception of spring… animals don’t spend a lot of time in deep thought about spring miracles, they just know that spring is a time to get out and grab some food now that the winter fasting season is over. Music for melting and thawing, hunting and gathering… and waxing poetic… Spring Moody is the theme on today’s episode.
