Tropicology - Episode 144: Fund Drive Victory Lap

I have developed a bit of a tradition for playing mellow music on the weekend after each Fund Drive… our staff has been very much hard at work for 12 straight days and they are all managing their caffeine withdrawal symptoms at the moment, so I always try to play calming sounds. I’ll be kicking off the playlist with acoustic sounds, with a healthy helping of samba cancao in the early going. That musical thread will wander into jazzier territory as the set proceeds, winding up with some modern cool jazz sounds with those tropical undertones. I’ll expand into some richer cinematic sounds at the end of the first hour, swelling to some happy musical emotions. The second hour today initially turns back to some acoustic sounds, but this time with a bit more of that tropical pedigree in the rhythm sections, a bit more of an African sound on the low end. Then I’ll wrap up the show with some globe hugging charmers, mostly coming from Africa.
