348 Drunken Prayer
Morgan Geer is Drunken Prayer.
His song "The Missionfield" was one of my favorites of 2012, and after this session I have an even higher esteem of his rock, country and soul sensibilities.
One of the surprises of our conversation is our mutual love for 80's minimalist pop group Trio. I came to the group as many others did - through the goofy pop hit "Da Da Da" -- but it was the weirder punkier stuff that kept me on the hunt for more. I had nothing more than a U.S. cassette EP until my senior year, when someone lent me the German import cassette of Trio's debut album on the class trip to Disneyland. I was hooked, and still am. My favorite is "Ja Ja Wo Gets Lank".
It may not be singer/songwritery, but it does exhibit the same kind of minimalism "just the facts m'aam" that I find and enjoy in acoustic music.
