Night School #214: Gregg Smith

<< Night School

Tonight on Night School, it is my honor to host the man they call the "Party Warrior," Mr. Gregg Smith! Coming off a stellar performance at last week's Albina Soul Revue, Gregg stopped by the studio before returning to his home in Dallas.

Though Gregg has been away from Portland for over three decades, his legacy runs deep in Albina. Gregg was one of the original soul singers to hold court at the Cotton Club. And when Thara Memory came to Portland, Gregg hired him to be his bandleader - setting the stage for Memory's lifetime tenure in the city. Gregg has played with a who's who of local and national acts. Tonight we'll hear tales of his feminist backing band in the late 70s, his early connection w/ Johnny "Guitar" Watson, and why Vanilla Ice should have taken his advice in 1989. All that and more...

Thank you for your support, Portland. And to all that packed the house last weekend!!!
