Night School #212: Randy Monroe
Tonight on Night School it is a pleasure to host one of my favorite people on the planet, Randy Monroe. As a bassist in Albina, Randy’s playing can be heard across a number of decades and genres. In the 70s, he played funk and soul w/ PO Express. He would later join Transport, one of neighborhood’s most understated disco acts. Then it was Jazz Machine, a jazz-funk tour de force. And let’s not forget the boogie-funk of Lights Out and Cliché, the synth-pop of Network, or his two decades playing blues with Linda Hornbuckle.
A journeyman bassist, Randy has been a constant presence on the scene. He shows up to the jams every week. He’s in studio or at the bar telling us the kind of tales you just can’t make up. His sly, trademark sense of humor could turn a frown upside down any day of the week.
Randy has been showing up at XRAY sharing his life, stories, music, and photos for the past couple years. Tonight’s episode will showcase Randy’s music as best we can in an hour. Not to be missed!
