The Afterparty Episode 1: We're Open for Business

Wow, it's finally here! We have been waiting to bring this afterparty to you for many years and it's finally a reality! If you would have told me a month ago that Portland would finally have a proper soulful house music radio show I would have probably laughed. I've got good reason too. You see, Im a soulful house lover and have been for about 30 years. A lot of people around the world agree with me. Lots of clubs around the world large and small get down to the sounds of soulful/afro/latin house music. Here in Portland it just never caught on. At times there was a glimmer of hope like that time Chez Damier, or Victor Simonelli played here. What about that Ron Trent Party or Paul Johnson? You would see all the old heads out dancing. By and large, ever since a couple key clubs that would actually book soulful house djs closed their doors, the real heads were forced to hang out in their basements. Their theory was why go out and listen to something trendy that might be forgotten in 3 months time when their basements were full of timeless classics and modern masterpieces that they would never hear out. Well, I decided that enough was enough. I had some experience on radio before so I headed over to the kind folks at XRAY.fm and pitched this show. I told them that this music was on the verge of being lost and we needed a voice. I dropped them some mixes and by god they agreed! Then I went to the dark basements of my soulful house loving friends and told them to pack up the crates, we got a show! So here we are. Thanks are in order to Theo at XRAY for believing in this and to Jenny, Will and Chase at XRAY just for being uber amazing. We are more than proud to be part of the XRAY family. Now please, come on in to our afterparty. Take off your shoes if you like. We have a 2 hour mix to take you from club time to bedtime. Enjoy the ride.
