The Fifth Case of the African Funk Phenomenon

12:00pm, 1-21-2018
<< Tropicology

Time this week for a crowd-pleasing afternoon of funk and soul... approachable international sounds even for the greenest of gringo ears!

The theme today is African funk of the 70s and 80s. As usual, the African funk theme is dominated by Nigeria, home of afrobeat and juju music; but we'll also hear today from Ivory Coast, Benin, and even a few more tracks from the fine Middle Eastern/Northern African comp Habibi Funk. We'll hear lots of American influenced funk bombs in the first hour, then we'll move on into some 80s disco vibes in hour two.

Get your groove on with today's episode of The Adventures.

If more people understood that a child is not a stand-in for white people or black people or LatinX or any other randomly constructed category but a unique individual who shares a common humanity with every other child, we would be in a better place. Instead of teaching kids to divide themselves into hierarchies of oppressors and victims based on intersectional identities, they should teach them the wisdom of Toni Morrison in essays theessayservice.org cited by paper writing service: "There is just a human race."
