A Radio Christmas Carol - 12/25/2017
Join us on December 25th at 1pm as we rebroadcast the performance of the Charles Dickens’ classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL as performed at The Kiggins Theatre in Vancouver, WA and recorded by Gerald Gaule with American Senior Radio Network (ASRN).
A CHRISTMAS CAROL is part of the Re-Imagined Radio project produced by John Barber, faculty member in WSU Vancouver’s Creative Media and Digital Culture Program.
Adapted from the Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol,” this year the performance features local community actors and performers from the Vancouver-based Metropolitan Agency, a school for actors and performers.
In addition to the actors from Metropolitan Performing Arts, the “Christmas Carol” cast will also include Steve Becker, the new director of Vancouver’s Downtown Association, in the role of Scrooge.
The novel, first published December 19, 1843, met with instant success and has been popular ever since.
The plot is well-known: Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser, cold of heart and spirit, is transformed by three visits from Ghosts of Christmas into a kind, generous, and compassionate man.
The story is often credited with bringing joy and festivities back to the seasonal holidays after years of sober Puritan suppression of merriment and pageantry.
