The Case of the Garage Rock Sounds of Africa

<< Tropicology

This week I've dusted off my box of African singles (along with a few albums). This train is headed to rockville.

This week we hear raw fuzz rock sounds from Africa. The first hour features garage jerk sounds of the 60s with bands from The Congo, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso. You will be surprised by the experimental flavors in this set, and the overall rock vibe here is very reminiscent of the surf and rockabilly movements in the states during that time.

The second hour this week follows the raw rock vibe, but this set is focused on Manding desert rock from the 70s. This set features music from Guinea and Mali, including some of the classic orchestras of the era:  Super Djata Band, Rail Band, Orchestre Super Mande, Sorry Bamba, and Le Kene Star de Sikasso.

I would love to hear this one, but there is no streaming audio available. Would you be able to post the streaming audio here, or on mixcloud? If not, I could provide my e-mail address, so you can send it to me there.
