The Fourth Case of the Uptown Latin Jam Session
Attention lovers of Pink Martini:
Today's case of the Uptown Latin Jam Session is going to take us all the way up to the uppiest of uptowns. This show is filled with velvety vocals and sparkling orchestral arrangements, with plenty of virtuoso instrumentalist performances. The performances here are mostly recorded in Cuba, with a few outliers from New York, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Venezuela. The vibe is sophisticated, elegant, playful and flamboyant. Pure 50s and 60s here... perhaps the last track from early 70s.
We start the show with a relaxed vibe: gentle mambo and descarga with a splash of danzon. We dip into some poppy latin charm before wrapping up the first hour with some fun and lively son montuno.
The second hour today boldly goes into bolero, the slow and romantic ballroom music of Latin America. Only the finest cheese makes this plate as we sample many mysterious melodramatic masterpieces. The set wraps up with a truly nice lineup of piano descargas including Peruchin, Leo Rosa, and Rolando Aguilo.
