The Annual Case of the South African Jazz-Jive Holiday

This year, as we look forward to what we can only expect will be an historically bad stretch of years ahead, we need to remember our reasons to be thankful more than ever. As I've done every year so far, I hope to drive home that message with a sampling of music from Apartheid-era South Africa (along with South African musicians who lived and performed abroad). Focus on jazz and township jive, and especially the area where those two musical genres meet.

As much as we may despise and lament the incoming administration, let's all remember that many people bear up to daily life even more alienated from their national governments.
