The Fifth Case of the Brazilian Symphony
Today we return to a common show theme that seems to always get positive feedback from the community: this will be the Fifth Case of the Brazilian Symphony, an opportunity for me to throw together some unusual tracks that don't fit into the "clubby" Brazilian themes I play with DJ Brother Charlie. My Brazilian symphonies may include jazz, folk, rock, and psychedelic sounds... today I will be playing all of the above.
You will hear some new (to the show) material from show favorites including Alceu Valenca, Arnaud Rodriguez, and early work from Quinteto Violado. We will wrap up today's show with a few Tropicalia nuggets, including favorite tracks from Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso.
Not sure why these sets get so much love... goes to show, I suppose, that we live in a town with a rock and roll heart. Or perhaps it just reveals my own rock roots.
